The Rhode Island Department of Health has confirmed two new cases of measles in the state. The first case involved a man in his 40s who had traveled from abroad to visit family in Rhode Island and tested positive for measles at the Rhode Island State Health Laboratories. The second case was unrelated and did not require hospitalization. The department is working with Brown University Health and the state department of health to reach out to those who may have had contact with this patient. The last measles incidence in the island was in 2025. The disease is highly contagious and nearly entirely preventable through vaccination.
