CEOs should start planning for their last day on their first day to ensure continuity within the company and its employee-owners, according to author Mark Bennett. Bennett's vision for the future, which included a personal vision for his future as CEO, began with a focus on creating a learning environment for each other’s success and inviting others to share in the journey. He emphasized the importance of communication and consistency in his succession plan, which includes holding weekly all-hands meetings so employees know what's going on and feel a sense of camaraderie. Bennett successfully developed people into roles and has been transitioning his roles to key leaders, three years ago, and two key roles. He also highlighted the need for accountability and transparency in his leadership. Despite his retirement, Bennett's firm's stock price has risen 24 times its value since that point.
