Valley Congressman Vince Fong has urged California leaders to reconsider a proposed change to the state's emissions program, which could increase gas prices and threaten refinery operations. Fong, a Republican representing California’s 20th Congressional District, called the proposal “nothing short of an existential threat to our refineries” and projected it could add an additional $1.21 a gallon to California”s already high gas prices. He urged Gov. Gavin Newsom, California Air Resources Board Chair Lauren Sanchez, and California Energy Commission Vice Chair Siva Gunda to reconsider the implementation of CARB’s Cap-and-Invest proposal. FONG argues that California's energy policies have led to more than 360 energy companies fleeing the state and creating an unstable market. He urges the federal government to focus on enhancing affordability through in-state refining capacity instead of forcing regulations on producers.
