Double murderer challenges 18km ban from village in Ireland
Published on March 7, 2026.
Irish double murderer, Declan Power, has challenged a decision by the Minister for Justice to restrict him from visiting the village where he committed the murders. Power was convicted in 2003 after pleading guilty to murdering his wife, Joan Power, and publican Maurice "Mossie" Curran. He has been out of prison on strict conditions since April 2021 and is only allowed to go within an 18km exclusion zone for work within this zone. However, in September 2025, the Minister kept the restrictions in place. Power is asking the court to cancel the decision, stating it is null, void, and invalid.
