A study published in Cancer Research Communications has found that marriage can significantly reduce cancer risk, with a 68 percent higher incidence among men who have never married compared to men who married. For women, cancer rates are 83 percent higher for those who never married. The study also found that divorce is linked to decreased alcohol consumption and smoking less. Frank Penedo, director of the Sylvester Survivorship and Supportive Care Institute at the University of Miami, said this indicates a greater risk for individuals not married.
