The Academy Award nominations for "Sinners," a film by American filmmaker Ryan Coogler, has made history with 16 nods, or two more than other big movies, including "All About Eve" and "Titanic". The film's producer, Sev Ohanian, is Armenian American. Alexanian argues that the rise of culturally specific cinema around the world, particularly in the cultural context of cultural identity, could indicate a potential future in cinema. He argues that while Hollywood struggles to rethink its artistic and economic foundations, the rise in culturally specific films offers a glimpse at a promising future. He also notes that while films are a cultural product, they rise and fall when there is demand, with demand for quality, adult content. Recent data from Parrot Analytics shows that American demand for non-U.S. films and TV reached about 25.3% in 2025, up from 17.1%. However, despite this, Hollywood decision-makers should pay attention to the need for greater support for foreign language content.
