Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego's past drinking and partying have come under scrutiny in a 2021 book, "They Called Us 'Lucky," about his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder and injuries after serving in combat in the Iraq war. The book, written with Jim DeFelice, details his heavy drinking and frequent trips to strip clubs, pizza parlors, and bars. Democrats are now considering this past as a liability due to his friendship with California Rep. Eric Swalwell, who recently resigned from Congress amid allegations of sexual harassment and heavy alcohol use. Despite efforts by GOP operatives to turn this around during his 2024 Senate race, efforts have been unsuccessful.
