A group of surfers held a paddle out in La Jolla Shores on Sunday to protest the Trump administration's use of immigration agencies as weapons. The event was organized by a collective called San Diego Salty, with the stated goal of raising awareness about arrests, deportations, forced disappearances, and deaths at the hands of Immigration Customs and Enforcement. The paddle out ceremony, typically used to commemorate a deceased community member, typically involves a circle of surfing and joining hands. The organizers were inspired by Paddle for Peace, which was created to mourn George Floyd in 2020.
