Chinese-American influencers are sharing the wellness rituals rooted in East Asian culture on TikTok, offering tips on how to achieve "Chinese baddie" status. The trend, dubbed "Chinamaxxing," has sparked controversy and sparked a positive spotlight on lifestyle practices tied to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). These practices, dating back to 5,000 years, aim to balance the body physically, emotionally and spiritually. Lulu Ge, founder of Elix, said these rituals are just everyday wellness practices passed down through generations. She also highlighted that hot meals can accelerate gastric emptying, which may be beneficial for people who struggle with digestion. Dr. Jonathan Grecco, an internal medicine specialist at Northwell Health’s Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital, suggested that cold foods may benefit those with functional digestive conditions like IBS or Functional Dyspepsia.
