Police in Elko, California, have revealed that 37-year-old Giovanni Perez shot and killed his 11-year old son, Callan, before turning the gun on himself near a ticket counter. The incident occurred at a small airport on Monday, April 13 and initially was initially reported as an active shooter situation. When officers arrived, they found Callan with a gunshot wound and later pronounced him dead. The pair had been driving a rental car that had broken down and led them to Elko. Police are still investigating whether Perez had any military background, and may never know why Callan's life was taken.
