EDM festivals provide mental health boost for women over 40, study finds

A recent study by the University of Leeds found that electronic dance music (EDM) festivals provide a mental health boost for women over the age of 40. The study, which involved data from 136 women in the EDM community between the ages of 40 and 65, found that middle-aged women are attending and returning to EDM events largely for the music, artists, social connection and mental health benefits. The survey also found that while music was the top reason for attending EDM, 56.6% of respondents ranked it as their No. 1 motivation. Researchers believe this indicates that clubbing remains important to women well into middle age and beyond. The findings could help address barriers to inclusion for older attendees and others who may feel excluded.
