Duneland celebrates its new superintendent and hiring of assistant

The Duneland School Board approved the contract promoting Robert McDermott to superintendent, with an initial salary of $210,000 and a potential increase to $220,000 if he moves within the Duneland district. McDermott will succeed Chip Pettit, who has been appointed as superintendent of the Hinsdale Township High School District 86 in suburban Chicago. The board also announced the appointment of Dr. Benjamin Tonagel, who was previously assistant superintendent with LaPorte Community School Corporation, as his successor. This is the third time the School Board has been through the process of hiring a superintendent, which is the board's most important job.
