Chinese "One Person Companies" (OPCs) have seen significant growth across the country in early 2026, driven by the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. These startups are using AI tools to handle everything from research and development to marketing, and are contributing to the country's entrepreneurial map. Zheng Haifeng, a veteran in science and technology education, established a digital culture and creative content company in Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province, established the OPC model. The sector is rapidly growing, with OPCs concentrated in the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta Delta, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei regions, as well as emerging industrial cities in central and western China. The surge is due to converging technology, policy, and market factors such as large AI models, Software as a Service (SaaS) systems, and cloud services allowing one person to handle design, programming, and marketing tasks previously required an entire team. The revised Company Law, which took effect on July 1, 2024, has simplified registration and lowered capital requirements, making it easier for individuals to start a business.
