Ballet INitiative, a project-based dance company in Indianapolis, will perform "The Little Mermaid" on May 2 and 3 at the Basile Theater at the Historic Athenaeum. The production offers a unique interpretation of the classic tale featuring altered lead characters and newly selected music. Many of the dancers balance dance with full-time jobs or family responsibilities to perform. The choreographer and producer for the production, Shelby Hildebrand, said the process is highly collaborative and contributions to the performance are significant.
