Washington state officials are taking their frustrations to court, asking a federal judge to allow for state health inspections at the Tacoma immigrant detention center in Tacoma. This comes after a decade of attempts by the state Department of Health to inspect the facility, The GEO Group, have been turned away. This is despite this legal battle winning last year, when a federal appeals court upheld a 2023 state law seeking to allow state health inspection at the facility. The Florida-based company, which runs the detention center, has argued that any resolution to the case should wait until the Supreme Court can review it.
