A judge has ordered Alec Baldwin to face a civil trial in October over allegations of negligence in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of "Rust" in 2021. The case was dismissed in July 2024 after a judge ruled that prosecutors had withheld evidence. However, Baldwin continues to face lawsuits over the shooting, which he claims he had no idea the gun was loaded with a live round, a breach of safety protocols. In a summary judgment ruling, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maurice Leiter allowed the case to proceed to trial, rejecting defense claims that Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions were not legally responsible for set safety. The judge allowed claims for punitive damages, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
