Humpback whale that washed ashore in Sandy Hook likely died from vessel strike

A 35-foot humpback whale has been identified as likely to have died from blunt force trauma. The Marine Mammal Stranding Center conducted a necropsy following the discovery of the animal on April 2. The whale was found in good condition, with significant bruises on the right side and head indicative of a ship strike. The team also found old scars on the whale's tail indicating a previous entanglement.
