Jimmy Jam, songwriter and producer, has revealed that while making "Scream" with Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, there was some friendly competition between them during the making of the song. The siblings recorded their vocals in different locations, with Michael recording in New York and Janet in Minneapolis respectively. Despite this, Jam says Janet felt like she was more than just guesting on Michael's song than ever before and was deferring to his brother's interpretation of the lyrics. The song "Scram" was released in 1995 and received several major accolades, including a 1996 Grammy for Best Music Video, Short Form, and a record 11 nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards.
