Charlane Oliver proposed the Homes Not Hedge Funds Act, which aims to limit the number of single-family homes developers can buy. The bill received near unanimous support from the Republican-led Senate but died early in the legislative process due to Rep. Bo Mitchell, D-Nashville, who did not second a motion to hear the bill and then voted against it. Oliver, the Senate representative of Nashville's largest minority majority district, argued that her constituents are burdened by rent and targeted by Trump administration policies. Mitchell denied this, but signed over a different housing bill to Rep., Aftyn Behn, D, who beat Mitchell in the primary for a special congressional race.
