Parliament Passes New Defence Oversight Committee, Greens Decry ‘Secret’ Body

The Australian Parliament has passed legislation establishing a new defence oversight committee, with opposition parties claiming it will be a secret body dominated by the Labor and the Liberal parties. The Senate approved the bill with a 30-18 vote, following which the lower house passed the bill. The Greens argue that the committee would allow minor parties to influence defence decisions.
