French court denies extradition of ex-Tunisian President Ben Ali’s daughter

A French court has refused to extradite Halima Ben Ali, the daughter of Tunisia's late dictator, over alleged financial crimes. The Paris Appeals Court cited Tunisia's failure to provide a trial by an independent court as the basis for the decision. Halima was arrested in September last year at Tunisia's request and is accused of laundering assets gained during her father's rule. The financial crimes alleged by Tunisia could result in a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
