A report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) alleges that 31 sloths taken from South America for the yet-to-open Sloth World attraction in Orlando, Florida, died before the attraction was set to open. The facility, operated by captive wildlife licensee Peter Bandre and co-owned by Benjamin Agresta, was used to house sloths for examination and acclimation after their importation to Florida and transfer to Slot World. The FWC visited the facility on August 8 for an "unannounced routine inspection" and noted that two of the animals were being kept in cages that did not meet legal requirements. The report also found that the sloths were in cages without proper marking or labeling. Despite these concerns, the FWC did not issue any infractions for the deaths.
