Makoto Kuroda, a University of Wisconsin lab worker, has been charged with recklessly endangering safety and tampering with a household product "with the intent to kill" with a colleague, identified only as TM, who was identified only by the initials TM in the criminal complaint. Kuroda allegedly confessed to the crime to a professor at the lab and admitted to putting paraformaldehyde in the colleague's water bottle. He also admitted to using a syringe to collect "2 or 3 microliters of PFA mixed with Trizol" from his work fridge and placing about 1.5 microliter of the mix in each of the employee's shoes. The University ofWisconsin has suspended Kuroda's access to its physical and digital university assets and his research privileges, pending a workplace investigation. Police were called to the lab April 6 after a report that chemicals were discovered in an employee's drink. Preliminary results showed Chloroform, which could cause a rash and discomfort for humans and animals. The university does not have any further information regarding the incident.
