Lt.-Col. Sarit Zehavi, founder and president of the Alma Research and Education Center, has warned that Hezbollah has the military capabilities and support to trigger a civil war in Lebanon. This comes after Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem directed the group's follower base to “bring down the government’s government” in an address that Zehvi suspected was largely directed and scripted by the Islamic Republic of Iran. She also noted that Hezbollah is a group loyal to Iran, not to Lebanon, and its aim is to reduce Lebanon to an Islamic state run under the powers of the Islamic republic. Zehav also noted the potential for a civil civil war as Hezbollah's Shia Muslim base, likely the largest single religious sect in Lebanon, could destabilize Lebanon. She suggested that the Israeli, Lebanese, and American military would need to coordinate to act in a "proactive" campaign against Hezbollah.
