However, crime rose during Newsom's first years due to Democrats' anti-law enforcement policies. He also claimed that California had allowed fraud to run rampant, including tens of billions of dollars stolen from the state unemployment department on Newsom’s watch. Despite this, California‘s gas prices are the highest in the nation, due to Newsom attempting to curb the fossil fuel industry, and he can’t blame the Iran War for high gas prices.
