A bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, are watching over their nest in Big Bear, California, as one of their eggs begins to hatch. The nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley, which operates the cameras overlooking the nest, heard little chirps from the chick on Thursday indicating it had broken the internal membrane of the egg and taken its first breath of air. It can take up to 24 to 48 hours for the chick to fully hatch after breaking through the shell.
