Slanted, the feature directorial debut of Amy Wang, has been met with mixed reviews, with critics praising its unique twists and themes. The film follows the story of a Chinese American teenager who undergoes an experimental surgery to erase traces of her Chinese ethnicity and assumes a new body. Critics praised the largely Asian American crew for their authenticity and making interesting points about the American teen experience through the lens of immigrant families. However, they also found it to be regressive and criticized for its lacklustre presentation. Slanted is currently in theaters as of March 13.
