The family of 25-year-old Alexander Moore, who was fatally shot by Howard County police in Columbia County, has released a statement expressing their "worst nightmare" for families of children with autism. According to the family, Moore was armed with a knife when he was shot and killed by three officers. The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, when officers responded to a call for a man threatening to harm himself. The family has called for better training for first-responders and for greater understanding of individuals with autism in such situations. The Howard County Police Department has stated that about 80% of its officers are special-trained in providing assistance to individuals with mental health issues.
