Iran accuses Australia of taking women’s soccer team ‘hostage’ after players claimed asylum

Iran has accused Australia of holding its women's soccer team hostage after one of the women claimed asylum. The claim was made by Esmail Baghaei Hamaneh, an Iranian diplomat and current Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed that the remaining women had changed their mind and will return home. The remaining women have been moved to a safe house to protect them from Iranian Government operatives.
