Number of amputees set to rise in Gaza as Israel blocks aid, NGO warns
Published on April 24, 2026.
The number of amputees in Gaza, already at a record high, could rise as Israel continues to restrict medical aid into the devastated strip. Humanity & Inclusion UK, which works with people living with disabilities, warned that the scale of amputations in Gaza reached "unprecedented" levels during the two-year conflict. The World Health Organization estimates that between 5,000 and 6,000 people in Gaza have undergone amputations as of early October 2025. Despite the ceasefire, conditions remain dire six months after the ceasefire. Only nine prosthetists are currently operating in Gaza due to a shortage of critical components. The casualty rate continues to rise, with over 700 Palestinians killed and 2,000 injured during the conflict.
