TSA Workers Finally Getting Paid After 6 Weeks: Emergency Funds Released Amid Airport Chaos

TSA workers will finally be paid after nearly six weeks without a paycheck due to the partial Department of Homeland Security shutdown, which left nearly 50,000 officers working without pay even as airports remained open and staffed. This caused massive delays at security checkpoints across the country, leading to staffing shortages and lengthy security lines. The shutdown also left more than 450 officers who had also quit during the shutdown. Federal officials agreed to release emergency funds to pay TSA officers after a bid to end the government shutdown stalled. The funds are expected to start being released as early as Monday, which would be some workers' first paycheck in over a month and a half. The question is whether these funds will last longer if the longest government shutdown to date continues over the next weeks and potentially months.
