Maria Lazar Touts a ‘Geeky’ Love of the Law in Run for Supreme Court

Conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Maria Lazar has been campaigning for the position since 2019, claiming she is an underdog in a highly partisan race against a former Democratic state lawmaker. Lazar, who has worked in courtrooms since 1989 and has served on the state’s 2nd District Court of Appeals, says the public needs someone “geeky and law nerdy enough” to “live and breathe the law” for a decade on the high court bench. She argues that the election for the Supreme Court has become too politicized and that her liberal opponent, Chris Taylor, has a long-standing political experience. Despite this, Lazar remains optimistic about her ability to overcome the odds.
