Man charged with murder of Loyola student Sheridan Gorman expected in court

The suspect, Jose Medina, is expected to appear in court in connection with the murder of Loyola University freshman Sheridan Gorman. The Department of Homeland Security has stated that Medina, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, entered the country illegally in 2023 and was arrested for shoplifting in 1998. Gorman was shot in the head and died of her injuries. The department has urged Illinois officials to detain Medina and issue an Ice detainer for his undocumented status.
