Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is delaying $600 million in vaccines for developing countries due to safety claims by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, a global partnership that provides vaccines in developing countries. Kennedy claims that Gavi uses a vaccine with significant side effects that the U.S. has long phased out. As a result, he is delaying releasing the group's Congress-appropriated funding for fiscal 2025 and 2026. The funds are set to expire on Sept. 30 if the Trump administration doesn't release them. Gavi’s CEO, Sania Nishtar, estimates that tens of thousands of children would die due to the lack of funding and cuts from other donors. The decreased funding has hit Gavi's malaria program the hardest.
