Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged Chinese officials to focus on improving governance rather than focusing on short-term economic gains, visible projects, formal accolades, or tangible improvements to people's well-being. This follows a Party-wide study campaign initiated by the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, with Xi at the core, aimed to correct misguided views on governance. The campaign aims to strengthen the Party's self-governance and prevent officials from sacrificing public wellbeing in effort to achieve success. Xi also emphasized the importance of Party leadership and Party building in developing the Xiong'an New Area, a modern city south of Beijing, as a model of high-quality development. The success of the 15th Five-Year Plan will depend on officials' understanding of governance achievement and a down-to-earth approach.
