Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, has warned that super-human intelligence (AI) will cause civilization-level damage unless smart, speedy intervention. He stated that humanity is about to be handed almost unimaginable power, and it is unclear whether our social, political, and technological systems can handle this power. Amodesi expressed deep concern that the government, technology companies, and public are underestimating the risks of AI. He warned that time must be taken to carefully build AI systems that do not autonomously threaten humanity. He also highlighted several specific concerns surrounding AI, including that it can undermine democratic values and be used to spy on Americans. The dispute between Anthropic and the government has been heated, with President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth designating Anthropic a "supply chain risk" and a government directive stating no government contractor can do business with Anthropic.
