The Obama Foundation hosted its fifth annual Earth Day on the South Side event at Jackson Park in Chicago. Over 150 volunteers from across the Chicagoland area cleaned up the park, re-mulched the trails and planted native seedlings. The event was held in partnership with several local groups, including Emerald South Economic Development Collaborative, the Chicago Parks Foundation and Urban Growers Collective. The volunteers were given pollinator pods, which contain seeds designed to grow pockets of wildflowers that attract and nurture pollinators like bees and butterflies. The center's opening date is June 19.
