This N.J. town is so young, the typical resident can’t even legally drink

The median age in Lakewood, New Jersey, has been set at 18.1 by 2024, compared to the national median of 38.9. The town, home to one of the state's largest Jewish communities, had a population of nearly 20,500 babies born there between 2020 and 2023. The birth rate was almost three-and-a-half times greater than the state’s and nation’�s (10.9) and 10.7 respectively. Many of the youngest towns in the state also tended to score high in the Census”s 2020 once-analysed diversity index, which measures the likelihood that two randomly chosen residents come from different racial or ethnic groups.
