Dr. Casey Means' nomination to be U.S. surgeon general has stalled in the Senate after senators from both major political parties grilled her on vaccines and other health topics during a confirmation hearing. Despite efforts from the White House and Make America Healthy Again activists, the nomination has not progressed. Means, a Stanford-educated physician who became disillusioned with traditional medicine and did not finish her surgical residency program at Oregon Health and Science University, has faced scrutiny for her lack of experience and potential conflicts. To advance to a full Senate vote, she needs every Republican on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to support her nomination. However, two of these senators, Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins, have said they still have questions for her.
