The Phoenix City Council is set to vote on immigration enforcement oversight during a meeting on Wednesday. The proposal includes new restrictions for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or any other law enforcement agency. It would prohibit ICE from using City of Phoenix property as a staging area, processing location or operations base without written approval from the city manager. The city manager must approve or decline requests from local, state or federal agencies to allow law enforcement on city property. The measure would expand tracking of ICE activity in the city and train city employees on what to do if they encounter federal agents. The only exception is if the third-party organization operates a program on behalf of the city.
