Anthropic has created a test marketplace for agent-on-agent commerce, using AI agents to represent both buyers and sellers in real-world deals. The experiment, Project Deal, involved a self-selected participant pool of 69 Anthropic employees who were given a $100 budget to buy items from their coworkers. Despite admitting it was only a pilot experiment, Anthropic was impressed with the success of the experiment, with 186 deals made totalling over $4,000 in value. The company ran four different marketplaces, one of which was "real" and another for study. However, users did not notice the disparity between the two models, raising concerns about agent quality and sale likelihood.
