Nevada nonprofit pushes for youth mental health change in Latino communities

A local nonprofit, Hope Means Nevada, is leading a campaign to raise awareness about youth mental health in Latino communities. The nonprofit is focused on preventing teen suicide and improving youth mental healthcare across Nevada. Executive Director Janna Velasco stated that the stakes are high as Nevada ranks at 51st in the national rankings of Mental Health America. In particular, female Hispanic youth, with 10% higher rates of suicide attempts than their white peers, this is particularly acute. VelasCo emphasized the need for uncomfortable conversations about mental health among teens. The 988 Lifeline is free, 24/7, and offered in multiple languages.
