A roundtable discussion was held in Moorhead, Minnesota, discussing the federal level's impact on local businesses and services. Topics included nutrition assistance assistance and gas prices. Clay County Social Services Director Quinn Jaeger discussed how federal changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program eligibility, including new work requirements, are expected to affect his department, which he anticipates will be passed on through county taxes due to funding cuts and an inefficient data entry system. Both federal and local leaders have been focusing on finding ways to prevent fraud and reducing funding for programs with already slim budgets is not the best solution, according to Maria Steen, Child Care Connections Director for Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership. Attendees also expressed concern about tariffs, rising gas prices and uncertainty for business owners and farmers.
