Dawson's Creek Creator Says He Reconnected with James Van Der Beek in 'Very Special Way' in Years Before His Death

Kevin Williamson, creator of Dawson's Creek, said he was "thankful" for reconnecting with James Van Der Beek before his death. He recalled meeting him when he was auditioning for the show and shared his admiration for his intelligence and analytical skills. The cast reunited for a charity event in New York City in 2025, which was bittersweet as Van Derbeek was not able to attend. In 2026, Van DerBeek died at the age of 48.
