While British Adults Are Less Active on Social Media, More Than Half Now Rely on AI Tools

A report by the UK's media regulator, Ofcom, has found that while British adults are less active on social media, more than half now use AI tools. The study, which assesses how Brits use the media and online services, found that social media use is becoming more passive and less engaging, with around half of adult social media users (49 percent) now actively posting, sharing, or commenting, down from 61 percent in 2024. Ofcom also found that participants are becoming more selective about posting and how they post online, with more adults concerned about future issues with their online posts. Over half of U.K. adults now use tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, or Gemini, driven by younger adults.
