Pillen vows to continue curbing government growth as cabinet recaps wins, next fights ahead

Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen held a joint roundtable with heads of every state department for the first time in his term, thanking them for his leadership and praising successes achieved by their teams. The cabinet highlighted wins on property taxes, schools, and public safety, but also highlighted the ongoing budget deficit, which has ballooned to nearly $650 million this year. Among the highlights was consolidating the Nebraska Youth Correctional Facility and moving the 18 minors incarcerated there to the RTC, saving roughly $6 million a year. Corrections Director Rob Jeffreys also commended the work on preparing those incarcerated for life on the outside. The roundtable also included updates on the Nebraska National Guard's federal partnerships with ICE.
