OpenAI has released GPT-5.5, a new large language model that shows improvements in agentic coding, conceptual clarity, scientific research ability, and accuracy during knowledge work. This follows the introduction of ChatGPT Images 2.0, which combines AI intelligence with image generation. The release cadence for OpenAI releases has increased significantly due to AI coding reducing development time. ZDNET tested GPT 5.5 through a 10-round test, which included a visualization of the release date and a test of its knowledge capabilities. However, the AI tended to be too exuberant, doing work I didn't ask it to do. The test also looked at how well the AI could read a story on the web and explain it, but failed to follow instructions to use Yahoo News as a source.
