Haiti gangs keep up attacks in breadbasket region after massacre

The violence continues in Haiti's Artibonite region following a massacre in Jean-Denis, where residents found 70 bodies and 30 wounded following an attack by the Gran Grif gang. The National Network for the ​Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) reported that this death toll is far higher than official death toll of around 16. Local self-defence units have withdrawn from Jean-denis and are now attempting another offensive in the town of Marchand Dessalines. Most of the National Police's armored vehicles are out of service due to battery issues, and units belonging to the U.N.-backed security force must now receive authorization from the capital.
