Deborah Brewer, a Jacksonville Beach woman, killed 24-year-old tourist Michael Gunderson while driving under the influence in May 2015. She spent more than a year in Duval County jail before taking a plea deal and served about 6 1/2 years in state prison. She was released early for good behavior to serve three years of probation and her driver's license has been permanently revoked. About 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes each day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Since her release, Brewer has volunteered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and warned others about the dangers of drinking and driving.
