A Woman's Body Was Found 46 Years Ago Off Highway 74. She Finally Has A Name.

On February 18, 1980, motorists discovered the body of a 20- to 25-year-old white woman near Highway 74 in Riverside County, California. Despite extensive efforts by investigators to identify the victim, the case remained unsolved. Over the years, investigative genetic genealogy has helped identify hundreds of cold cases. In 2024, her remains were exhumed for DNA analysis and a DNA profile was developed, uploaded to a direct-to-consumer ancestry database. The California Department of Justice Crime Laboratory confirmed the identity of Victoria Jean Hargrove, who had gone missing from her home in Opelika, Alabama, in 1980.
